London calling to the faraway towns [PART TWO]

So heres the continuation of my top picks from London Fashion Week...

Peter Pilotto is my first collection in this continued post, i read that Pilotto along with Christopher de Vos 'explored the decorated works of Spanish renaissance artists' for their autumn/winter 2013-14 collection and you can most definitely see that in the show. The appliqued coats and jackets were my particular favourites, abstract prints donned every surface and equally complex shapes added to the eye feast! The signature patterned puffa's made a welcome return again this season and the rich colour palate amongst the graphic prints only verified the designers innovation! 

Elegance is a word that springs to mind for the next collection from Mr Antonio Berardi, beginning with work wear then slipping effortlessly into a more evening wear vibe this collection is without fault. Razor sharp tailoring, a highly sophisticated colour story, lots of lovely capes, pleats, sheer cut outs and advanced shapes made this a collection to remember.

Now to talk about Louise Gray our fashion recycling heroine, she had plastic bag hair pieces, tins as earrings, duct tape bangles and even toilet roll featured, wacky it sounds and wacky it was but not in the monstrosity my description may have built up in your mind it was actually a lot better! The usual genius mix of textures, layers and innovative materials were involved as well as an uplifting colour palette some great prints, exceptional trousers and some structurally sound dresses a show of theatrical delights, the show also highlighted wearing rubbish is most definitely cool.

And finally on my whirlwind tour of LFW it's Tata Naka these identical twin sisters have been awarded The British Fashion Councils coveted New Generation Award at LFW a staggering 3 times in a row. So my meagre seal of approval will not do them justice but still i'll continue anyway. A fun and colourful presentation from the pair this season, the highlight for me were the sheer strips added to skirt, dress and trouser bottoms i felt they were rather funky, also masses of colour and print on top on one another, preppy american cheer outfits, abstract prints and some amazing wool wears, yep there was a lot contained in this one collection but it was maximalism at its funnest!

London calling to the faraway towns [PART ONE]

So London Fashion Week concluded yesterday and i have yet again complied a list of my favourite shows in order to share my top picks with you. The Autumn/Winter selection was somewhat summery? this time or a least a little lighter than the usual fall collections! I noticed a overwhelming amount of large floral prints especially of the rose kind (which i have to admit isn't my most loved horticultural specimen), also plenty of sheer-ness going on weather it be fabric or plastic a panel or a whole dress it was most definitely in! Check also made a come back large, small, mixed or matched chose your pick, patent heavily featured in many collections too and masses of luxe applique most excitingly so on outerwear and not just the posh kind puffa jackets got it too. So no more gabbing here are my first four picks from the week!

Firstly i want to talk about Eudon Choi if i can steal attention away from the completely loveable headdresses, the collection was also extremely loveable! Brocade and leather worked in harmony, with stripes, fur and knit dropping in too i know what your thinking this sounds mad but seeing is believing! Rich blues and pale pinks weaved through the collection with light and heavy fabrics contrasting for a truly unique and excellently executed collection. The pom pom shoes were also magnificent.

David Koma has definitely become one of the highlights of LFW for me and i think for a great deal of people. Structure and Sheer-ness were the two big 'S' in this show, a futuristic edge was displayed in the sculpted leather and patent applique. Contouring and smooth edges also played a big part and the harsh black beginning lead to a lighter but still as edgy array of garments, a hugh triumph on David's part possibly my favourite collections he has ever done! 

Preen by Thornton Bregazzi is my next top collection, black, red, white and some tiny hints of blue was the colour palette of choice here, accompanied by a variety of variably placed zippers and some very cool skew whiff collars, staring off clean, sleek and perfectly cut, then bursting with pattern, sheer-ness and leather in the middle then upping the volume again to a carnival of embellishment for the finale. A wonderful mix of textures and print but still oh so sophisticated thank you Preen!

And lastly for now Holly Fulton my art deco print wonder princess, "The Fanzines came to fruition," Fulton declared about her A/W show, using photocopy and collage for motif inspiration a punk vibe ran throughout and some glorious clothes were on offer. Print and leather being the main focus, sooo many prints it was like heaven all mismatched together for an ultra cool crazy stylish dream. I love, love, loved it can't put it any better really bravo Holly bravo!
