The London Collections: Menswear

The menswear collections for Autumn/Winter 13/14 kicked off this week with gushing's of new variations on the usual autumnal tones mixed with key pieces in brighter colours such as orange and green. Subtle and not so subtle prints were dropped into many of the designers collections this year which pleased me lots, weather it was whole suits, a scarf and jumper same print combo or coats prints were in unusual places and unusually placed! I'm going to share my personal choice of the best collections from over the 3 days.

At the beginning there was Jonathan Saunders, he brought colour and light into otherwise dark seasons, he also brought us excellent print, superbly cut garments and deluxe winter fabrics.  The styling of the collection was expertly done not that anything else was expected, but it had to be mentioned as the precise layers in each outfit moulded together in perfect harmony, with just the right amount of scruffy to make it exceptionally cool.

Then James Long brought pattern on pattern on pattern, and shiny trousers, and every shade of brown you could imagine for a truly imaginative collection.  Using innovative fabrics with interesting finishes i felt a sort of whimsical joy looking at this collection, it would surely only improve anyones winter if they had these clothes in their wardrobe.

Next Hardy Amies brought the suave and stylish angle to the proceedings with some amazing tailoring, more pattern, and some excellent spectacle wearing!  Everything in the collection is so gentlemanly theres not much else to say, it's just so perfect its above and beyond sophistication.

And my final top collection came from Xander Zhou, this excellent collection features a very futuristic and somewhat Star Trek-y outlook, though the latter may mainly be due to the hair styles! Again some great eyewear here, more suits, inspiring garment cuts and overall just a fascinating collection. Live Long and prosper!

And finally some highlights from the collections:

My award for best hats in a collection: Margaret Howell

My award for best suit: Alexander Mcqueen
